Dolomites pass closures in 2027: bike days, Maratona and the Gardena plan

Several times a summer the Dolomites hand their passes to cyclists. On those days the roads are closed to motor traffic, and a route that crosses them will not work. Here are the confirmed dates for 2027.

Reopening can be later than the official time if many riders are still on the road. The Passo dello Stelvio also has car-free days in summer; dates are announced in spring.

How to plan around them

• Do not plan a transfer between Val Badia, Val Gardena, Val di Fassa and Arabba on these days. The detours via Brunico, Bressanone or Bolzano take hours.
• Staying inside one valley is fine; the valley roads stay open.
• If you must cross, go before the closure starts or after it ends.

The Gardena Pass plan

There are no access restrictions in 2026. Since September 2026 the province has been running a digital test on the Gardena Pass to model traffic limits. For 2027 a limit on motor traffic from mid-May to mid-October is being considered, and the Sella, Pordoi and Campolongo passes were discussed too. Nothing is decided, and residents and businesses are to be consulted first.
