Lago di Braies, Tre Cime and Seiser Alm by car: closures, bookings and tolls
Updated 20 October 2026
The famous Dolomites spots limit cars in summer. What you need to book, what it costs and when you can just drive up.
The three most photographed places in the Dolomites all restrict cars in summer. None of the roads is hard to drive; the problem is arriving at a closed barrier. Rules below are the 2026 rules; the 2027 details are usually published in spring, and we update this page when they are.
Lago di Braies (Pragser Wildsee)
- When: from 1 July to 15 September the road to the lake is closed to cars, motorbikes and buses from 9:00 to 16:00.
- How to get in during that time: with a parking reservation booked online in advance (pragsparking.com), or by bus 439 from Dobbiaco and 442 from Monguelfo.
- Outside those hours and dates: you can drive up and pay at the car park. Sunrise at the lake is the classic way to beat both the barrier and the crowds.

Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Rifugio Auronzo toll road)
- When: the toll road from Misurina to Rifugio Auronzo opened on 23 May 2026 and closes in autumn.
- Booking: mandatory, online, for a date and time slot, with your number plate. July and August weekends sell out, so book early.
- Prices in 2026: car €40, motorbike €26, camper €60.
- Without a car: seasonal buses run from Dobbiaco and Misurina to the hut.

Seiser Alm (Alpe di Siusi)
- Day visitors do not drive up in the main seasons. The usual way is the cable car from Siusi (Seis) to Compatsch, about 15 minutes.
- Hotel guests on the plateau may drive up on arrival day, leave on departure day, and during the stay drive to Compatsch before 10:00 and after 17:00, with a permit from the hotel.
- Parking: from 29 June 2026 the car parks P1 Spitzbühl (€15 a day) and P2 Compatsch (€30 a day) must be booked online. Parking on the plateau is banned from 23:00 to 5:00.
- In the shoulder seasons (mid-April to mid-May and early November to early December), when the cable car is closed, the road to Compatsch is open to everyone all day.

Prato Piazza (Plätzwiese)
The narrow road from Ponticello is restricted for private cars during the day in summer, with a shuttle bus from Ponticello. Road page: Prato Piazza road.
The pattern
Go early, go late, or go by bus. For the rest of the Dolomites you can simply drive; see Driving in the Dolomites: the complete guide.
